THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN
Preface
Most of the adventures recounted in this book are things that have happened: one or two I came up to me and the rest were boys who were my classmates. Huck Finn is drawn from life; Tom Sawyer also, but not a single person is a combination of the characteristics of three young boys of my acquaintance, and belongs, therefore, architecturally, the composite order.

All rare superstitions which refers prevailed at the time of this story, namely, thirty or forty years, among children and slaves in the West.

Although this book is composed primarily for the amusement of boys and girls, hope you do not have to be so despised by the people Tallud, it also came into my purpose to attempt to make the most fondly remembered how they were at one time and how felt and thought and talked, and how curious trances were at times tangled.
